VOLUNTEER PROGRAM
The Vancouver Velocity Speed Skating Club is a small nonprofit and an amazing sport community powered entirely by volunteers, all the way from our board to our dedicated coaching team. Our operations require significant and reliable volunteer support to run successfully, and we need every member to pitch in to keep our club going strong.
2025/2026 Program Requirements
- Every family in the club must complete mandatory volunteer hours over the season to share our club responsibilities fairly, with some exceptions. Mandatory hours are:
- 16h per family for full-time skaters for the full season (hours will be prorated for those joining partway through the season)
- 8h per family for part-time skaters for the full season (hours will be prorated for those joining partway through the season)
- No requirement for those in Learn to Skate, One Month Trial, Special Olympics, or Remote Athletes
- Each family must also provide a postdated (April 1) volunteer deposit cheque of $400 at registration, which will be deposited if the 16 hours are not completed, or if a formal volunteer role is taken on but duties are not performed consistently and well.
- If your family is unable to participate, you may opt out and provide a cheque or e-transfer of $400 at the start of the season.
- Each family that needs to do volunteer hours must log their hours in a printed Volunteer Hours Tracking Sheet (please download & print) and have the hours verified by supervising club volunteer staff.
- Please note: if you volunteer at a meet run by another club, you can only count a max of 4h across all meets in the season toward your VSSC volunteer time.
- Please note: if you volunteer at a meet run by another club, you can only count a max of 4h across all meets in the season toward your VSSC volunteer time.
- To fulfill your volunteer hours required by the program, please submit your Volunteer Hours Tracking Sheet with 16h completed to the board by the end of the season (typically March 31). If the completed sheet is not submitted by this deadline, your cheque will be cashed. No extensions, no emails, no scans, no text messaged forms will be accepted. Partial refunds will not be issued.
- Important: if your child(ren) participate(s) in any meets or competition events during the season, it is compulsory for you to participate in any duties assigned to our club, even if you have completed 16 hours of volunteering.
Signing up for volunteer work
Opportunities to volunteer will also be communicated to club members throughout the season. The board will come around during practice or send out through our communications channels. Please ensure you are signed up for our newsletter or in our Whatsapp group (ask at the club for the link).
